Introduction
The Executive Committee of the International Society for Extremity MRI in Rheumatology-ISEMIR and Saint Louis University School of Medicine are conducting the 3rd multi-supported Annual ISEMIR CME Conference scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 in Rome, Italy.
The mission of Saint Louis University School of Medicine is to educate future professionals to practice and advance knowledge in medicine and the sciences relevant to medicine. The educational approach embraces integrated activities in basic and clinical research, in provision of patient-centered, compassionate, culturally competent health care, and involvement with the community through public service. These diverse educational experiences prepare individuals for careers and leadership roles in medicine and the medical sciences through training grounded in an understanding of the scientific method and an appreciation for personal commitment and service to others.
The mission of ISEMIR is to provide a means for users, manufacturers and industry to promote matters related to extremity MRI, in particular validation, education, use in clinical practice and research, with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes.
Target Audience
This educational activity is designed for rheumatologists who manage patients with RA.
Overall Goal
The overall goal of this meeting is to discuss the role of e-MRI in Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). Data exist demonstrating that early diagnosis and aggressive treatment of RA improves patient outcomes. E-MRI may allow for an earlier diagnosis than that of traditional radiography.

Learning Objectives
The learning objectives for this activity have been designed to address clinician competence, performance or patient outcomes. Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Discuss the evolution of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a clinical tool to diagnose and monitor disease progression in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and determine the most effective application of this imaging tool to maximize the benefits of treatment for RA patients
- Review the importance of early diagnosis and aggressive treatment of RA and assess the role of MRI in evaluating radiographic progression and improving patient outcomes
- Cite the limitations of traditional radiography and discuss the advantages of MRI in detecting changes in RA erosions early in the course of disease
- Recognize the role of interdisciplinary cooperation between radiologists and rheumatologists in the utilization of eMRI in clinical practice in order to secure optimum outcomes for patients
- Appreciate the importance of good clinician-patient communication when managing RA patients so that expectations can be met; therefore, leading to positive healthcare outcomes
