Ewa Olech, M.D.

Dr. Ewa Olech is Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and Assistant Member, Clinical Pharmacology Research Program, Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.

Dr. Olech earned her medical degree from the Medical Academy, Lublin, Poland.  Following completion of an Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, IL, she pursued her Rheumatology Fellowship at the University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ. She is Board-certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology.

Actively involved as a principal investigator in clinical trials studying efficacy and safety of new biological products for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, Dr. Olech has been also a sub-investigator of numerous research studies in osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, systemic lupus erythematosus and lupus nephritis.

Several of Dr. Olech’s recent research projects have focused on evaluating MRI as a rheumatoid arthritis outcome measure in clinical trials and in rheumatology practice.  Dr. Olech has authored several publications and presented on numerous occasions on this subject. One of her current research projects is assessing MRI results in RA patients receiving rituximab/ placebo in a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. This study will also compare the extremity in-office 0.2 Tesla MRI to the traditional 1.5 Tesla equipment. Various novel biomarkers will be evaluated and correlated with MRI results.

Dr. Olech is Website Committee Chair and the Founding Member of the International Society of Extremity MRI in Rheumatology (ISEMIR). She is a member of the Editorial Advisory Panel for the Expert Review of Clinical Pharmacology and has served as a reviewer for Arthritis Research and Therapy and the Journal of Clinical Rheumatology.
